Training Information
Trainings for the Neighborhood Information System are given by the staff of the Cartographic Modeling Lab. There are currently two types of training sessions to choose from: Introductory Training: Designed for new NIS users.
Provides an overview of the four main NIS applications: parcelBase, neigbhborhoodBase, crimeBase, and muralBase. This training is interactive: each attendee will follow the instructor on an individual computer. (1.5 hours)
Advanced Training: Designed for users who are already familiar with basic NIS functions. The advanced training is tailored around attendees needs and interests, and covers topics such as creating a parcel assembly, establishing a user defined neighborhood, and exporting files. This training is interactive: each attendee will follow the instructor on an individual computer. (2 hours)
Grant Training: As competition for grant funding continues to increase, foundations and grantmakers are placing growing importance on the demonstration of need and accountability measures. The NIS grant training demonstrates how users can harness the information in the NIS to write data driven grant proposals. Specifically, the training will highlight how users can use the NIS to track trends in their neighborhood, identify their market’s needs and assets, and graphically enhance their grant proposals.
