The University of Pennsylvania is home to many databases relating to public safety, housing, neighborhood quality, public education, transportation, commercial activity, public health, and medical treatment. The availability of this extensive, longitudinal, household- and property-specific information about neighborhood conditions in and around Philadelphia poises researchers to make significant contributions to the field of urban research.

Until now, many investigators from Penn have been studying the impact of neighborhood conditions on physical activity, obesity, child injury, youth violence, pre-term birth, early school success, housing segregation, and other issues independently. The Faculty Forum builds on these independent initiatives to establish a more collaborative setting in which new urban modeling concepts, tools, and techniques can be developed, tested, and shared.
